I discovered pottery as a student at Scripps College, and I've made it part of my life in Portland, Oregon, for most of my adult years.
In my 20s I worked full time in my own studio. When I became a psychotherapist in my 30s, pottery provided a much-needed balance to that work.
Now that I'm retired, pottery is the focus of my creative energy.
I use time-honored wheel throwing and hand building techniques. I especially enjoy combining both by making a piece on the wheel and then altering it.
Each piece becomes distinct with carving, wax resist decoration, and underglaze painting.
I use stoneware clays that are either dark and earthy-colored, or smooth and white, with a porcelain-like quality. My work is currently fired to Cone 6 (2200°) in an electric kiln, but for many years my pieces were high-fired in a gas kiln.
All pieces are oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. My glazes are food-safe except for a few that are only used on decorative pieces.
Please go to my Shop to see what is available for purchase. If you live in the Portland, Oregon metro area you may purchase online and I will arrange for you to pick up, or for me to deliver your selections. I am not shipping my work at this time.
On my Gallery page are sold pieces that show the range of my work.
